Neurofilament light (NfL) is a cytoskeletal intermediate filament protein that is expressed in neurons and can be released in significant quantities following axonal damage or neuronal degeneration. NfL has been shown to be associated with multiple sclerosis (MS) and other neurodegenerative diseases.
