OPG (Osteoprotegerin) Assay
OPG (Osteoprotegerin), also known as OCIF (osteoclastgenesis inhibitory factor), is a 60 kDa protein that plays an important role in bone density and homeostasis by inhibiting osteoclasts and promoting osteoclast apoptosis. OPG binds to RANKL, preventing the ligand from causing bone resorption. Levels of OPG in blood have been associated with several diseases including atherosclerosis, cardiovascular disorders, juvenile Paget’s, and osteoporosis.
