Clinicians use various biomarkers to diagnose, track, and treat disease, and there are many disorders for which identifying new biomarkers or improving the sensitivity of existing biomarkers could fulfill unmet clinical needs and improve patient outcomes(1). For example, detecting low concentrations of neurological biomarkers in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and blood plays an important role in improving preclinical research, drug discovery and development, diagnostics, prognostics, monitoring, therapy, and clinical trials for various neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, and Parkinson’s disease. Among the key neurological biomarkers are neurofilament light chain (NfL), tau phosphorylated at threonine 181 (p-Tau 181), tau phosphorylated at threonine 217 (p-Tau 217), and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP).
