Global Scientific Leaders In Traumatic Brain Injury Research Meeting In Washington This Month

Washington – (Business Wire) – The world’s leading researchers in the field of traumatic brain injury research are meeting on April 16 & 17, 2014 in Washington DC for the 4th Annual Traumatic Brain Injury Conference. Traumatic brain injuries are one of the foremost health concerns throughout the world. In the US alone, an estimated 1.7 million people seek medical care for traumatic brain injuries each year. “This year’s conference will provide a unique forum for the latest developments of diagnostics and therapeutics in TBI and will outline future strategies,” noted Andreas Jeromin, Ph.D., one of the scientific co-organizers of the meeting.

This event brings together researchers and clinicians from industry, academia, the military and government to present ground-breaking research in a variety of areas related to traumatic brain injury, including new therapeutic candidates, novel neuroimaging, biomarkers, outcomes research, assessment tools and preclinical research. Headlining this year’s event are the following experts in the field of TBI:

  • Andrew Maas, MD, Ph.D. – University Hospital Antwerp
  • Mark Mintun, MD – Avid Radiopharmaceuticals (Eli Lilly & Co)
  • Ramona Hicks, Ph.D. – National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS)
  • Walter Koroshetz, MD – National Institutes of Health (NIH)
  • Robert Stern, Ph.D. – Boston University School of Medicine
  • Ramon Diaz-Arrastia, MD, Ph.D. – Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS)
  • Andreas Jeromin, Ph.D. – Quanterix, Inc.

In addition to presentations, the conference will include interactive panel sessions on the following subjects:

  • Clinical and preclinical development of new therapies for TBI
  • Molecular diagnostics, imaging and other diagnostics for better assessment of TBI in the clinic
  • Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, Neurodegenerative disease following TBI, Rehabilitation and Outcomes Research

The 2014 speaking faculty includes over 30 world-renowned experts in the field of Traumatic Brain Injury. Following are a few of the more than thirty planned presentations:

  • Heterogeneity in Long-term Outcomes After TBI: Current Research and Future Directions (Kristen Dams-O’Connor, Ph.D., Mount Sinai School of Medicine)
  • Opportunities and Challenges for TBI Research: NIH Perspectives (Ramona Hicks, Ph.D., National Institute for Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS)
  • Therapeutic Interventional Trials and Challenges to finding a Treatment for TBI (David W. Wright, MD, FACEP, Emory University School of Medicine)
