Martin Madaus, Ph.D., Executive Chairman
As Executive Chairman of Quanterix’s Board of Directors, Dr. Madaus brings
more than 20 years of experience in the diagnostics and life science industries.
He most recently served as President, Chairman and CEO of Millipore Corporation,
recently acquired by Merck KGaA. Before joining Millipore, Dr. Madaus was President,
CEO and head of North American Operations for Roche Diagnostics Corporation.
Prior to this he served as Vice President of Business Development for Roche
Molecular Diagnostics and General Manager of Boehringer Mannheim Canada.
He also held a number of senior-level sales, marketing and product management
positions with Boehringer Mannheim Corporation in both Germany and the US.
Dr. Madaus is a director of the Massachusetts High Technology Council and serves
on the Life Sciences Collaborative Leadership Council of the Massachusetts Technology
Collaborative. He has a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Munich,
Germany and a Ph.D. in veterinary medicine from the Veterinary School of Hanover, Germany.
Douglas Cole, M.D., General Partner, Flagship Ventures
Dr. Cole is a General Partner at Flagship Ventures where he focuses on Life
Science investments. Prior to Flagship, he served as Program Executive at Vertex
Pharmaceuticals and as Medical Director at Cytotherapeutics. While at Flagship,
he has led investments in Agios Pharmaceuticals, Tetraphase, Concert Pharmaceuticals,
Ensemble Discovery, Alvine Pharmaceuticals, and CombinatoRx. Dr. Cole co-founded
Ensemble Discovery and served as CEO of the company during its initial stages.
In addition to Quanterix, he currently serves on the Board of Directors at Agios
Pharmaceuticals, Tetraphase, Concert Pharmaceuticals, Ensemble Discovery, AVEO
Pharmaceuticals, and CGI Pharmaceuticals, and is an Observer on the Board of
Directors of Alvine. Dr. Cole obtained post-graduate training in medicine at
the Johns Hopkins Hospital and in neurology at Massachusetts General Hospital.
He holds an M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and
received an A.B. magna cum laude with High Distinction in English
from Dartmouth College.
Keith L. Crandell, Co-founder and Managing Director, ARCH Venture Partners
Mr. Crandell is a co-founder and Managing Director of ARCH Venture
Partners where he focuses on chemical and specialty materials companies,
electronics and instrumentation, optics and photonics, telecommunications,
and enterprise infrastructure businesses. He previously served as
Senior Manager at ARCH Development Corporation, where he was responsible
for ARCH Venture Fund I activities at Argonne National Laboratory. In
addition to Quanterix, Mr. Crandell has played key roles in the formation and
initial funding rounds at AlfaLight, ALIS, Eichrom Industries, Nanophase Technologies
and Illinois Superconductor. He was also responsible for ARCH’s investment in
New Era of Networks, Apropos Technology, Teach.com, CelebrateExpress, Ahura Scientific,
Adesto Technologies, and Crystal IS, among others. In addition to Quanterix,
Mr. Crandell is a director of Nanosys, AlfaLight, Adesto Technologies, CelebrateExpress,
Crystal IS and also serves as a Director of the Illinois Venture Capital Association
and the National Venture Capital Association. He holds an M.B.A. from The University
of Chicago, an M.S. in Chemistry from the University of Texas at Arlington, and
a B.S. in Chemistry and Mathematics from St. Lawrence University.
James Nahirny, Managing Director, Bain Capital Ventures
Mr. Nahirny is a Managing Director and a founding Partner of Bain
Capital Ventures and a Managing Director of the firm. Prior to joining
Bain, Mr. Nahirny was a Partner at McKinsey & Company where he worked closely with the senior management
and Boards of his clients on a broad range of strategic and operations issues.
He previously worked in the Mergers and Acquisitions Group of First Boston in
both New York and Tokyo. In addition to Quanterix, Mr. Nahirny
serves on the Boards of Imerica, Nanosphere, Servigistics and Tengion
as well as Children’s Hospital Boston Board of Overseers, New England
Venture Capital Association, and Yale Entrepreneurial Society. Mr.
Nahirny received an M.B.A. with High Distinction from Harvard Business
School, where he was a Baker Scholar, and a B.A. magna cum laude from Yale University.
David Walt, Ph.D., Scientific Founder
David R. Walt is Robinson Professor of Chemistry at Tufts University
and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Professor. Dr. Walt is a member of the U.S. National
Academy of Engineering, a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement
of Science, and a fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological
Engineering. Dr. Walt serves on the Editorial Advisory Board
of several journals including Analytical Chemistry, Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry,
Sensor Letters, and the Indian Journal of Biotechnology.He
served as Executive Editor of Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology and
was a founding member of the Editorial Advisory Board for the Journal of
Combinatorial Chemistry. Dr. Walt is the Scientific Founder
and Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board at Quanterix, and a Director of Illumina.
He has received numerous national and international awards and honors recognizing
his work including a National Science Foundation Special Creativity Award, The
Biosensors and Bioelectronics Award, and the Samuel R. Scholes Award in Glass
Science. Dr. Walt has received the Tufts Outstanding Faculty Award twice
in addition to the Distinguished Research Award. He has published
over 200 papers, holds over 45 patents, and has given hundreds of invited lectures
and scientific presentations. Dr. Walt received his Ph.D. in
Chemical Biology from SUNY at Stony Brook and a B.S. in Chemistry
from the University of Michigan.
