Many proteins thought to be potential diagnostic markers of human
diseases, including cancer, autoimmune, and cardiovascular disease,
circulate at concentrations well below the limits of detection of
current protein detection technologies, such as ELISA. More
sensitive methods for detecting proteins in blood are needed to
bridge the gap between circulating concentrations and limits of
detection. Utilizing SiMoA, improvements in analytical sensitivity
of more than 1000-fold over ELISA have already been demonstrated
for a number of serum proteins of interest to the medical community.
Quanterix believes that by offering the highest sensitivity and best
precision over a wide dynamic range, its SiMoA platform has the
potential to become an industry standard. To demonstrate the value
and robustness of SiMoA,
Quanterix is establishing a CLIA compliant
laboratory and will initially focus on two diagnostic test markets.
These markets were selected because there is a major unmet medical
need and candidate biomarkers are known, but currently cannot be
adequately measured in blood. Over the longer term, the company
will partner with life science researchers developing novel
biomarkers and leverage its sensitivity advantage to translate
proteomic and expression array-based research into serum-based
diagnostic tests.
